Valhalla High School - Home of the Norsemen!

Valhalla High School - Home of the Norsemen!

Valhalla, the greatest of all halls in Norse mythology, was reserved for Odin’s heroes and never lacked space for newcomers! Valhalla is a twice recognized California Distinguished School. Through the NorseCODE, Valhalla students are expected to demonstrate Cooperation, Ownership, Diligence, and Empowerment. Valhalla is one of eleven comprehensive high schools (nine comprehensive, two charter, and one alternative) in the Grossmont Union High School District. Curriculum is focused on the Common Core State Standards in all core areas. Valhalla High School's instructional programs are designed to improve student achievement on an annual basis. Our college preparatory focus provides depth and rigor in all curricular areas. The school supports cultural awareness on a daily basis through its diverse literature selections and integrated English and Social Science curriculum as well as in the foreign language and the visual and performing arts instructional sequence. Three years of science are required for graduation. Teachers meet weekly as Professional Learning Communities to review subject matter content and share best practices in order to improve student achievement.

Valhalla’s high academic standards are reflected in its Advanced Placement results and state assessment results. In addition to challenging college preparatory academic programs, including 12 different Advanced Placement course offerings, Valhalla High School also offers co-curricular programs in vocal and instrumental music, dance and theatre, as well as Career Technical Education programs in Arts, Media and Entertainment, as well as Multimedia and TV/Film, and our newly opened Sports Medicine and Education pathways. In addition, electives are offered in computer principles, visual arts, and family and consumer education. A variety of support programs are offered to contribute to Valhalla’s academic culture, including AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination), SOS Week,  NorseCrew and Safe School Ambassadors. Highly competitive CIF and club sports are also offered.

A strong and dedicated teaching staff, guidance team, and administration promote a positive campus environment. School spirit runs high, as demonstrated through the ASB sponsored “Orange Nation.” Valhalla High School is one of the best secondary schools in San Diego County!
